Lefkada

Když jsem před lety jako studentka projížděla ostrov s kamarádkou na skútru a koupala se na téměř opuštěných plážích, připadala jsem si jako v karibském ráji. Nečekala jsem, že lze v Evropě zažít takovou scenérii – sněhobílé skály a tyrkysové moře. Už samotný název ale napovídá, řecké slovo lefkó znamená bílý. Když jsem Lefkadu navštívila opět nedávno, měla jsem radost, že se toho tolik nezměnilo – až na škody způsobené zemětřesením v roce 2015. Tehdy byla zasypána Egremni, jedna z nejhezčích pláží. Naštěstí se na západním pobřeží zachovaly podobné skvosty jako Kathisma, Megali Petra a Porto Katsiki na jihu.

Jsou zde místa, která musíte navštívit a taky taková, která můžete vynechat. Nejhezčí západy slunce zažijete v Agios Nikitas, surfaři se nejlépe ubytují na jihu ve Vassiliki, nejlepší taverny najdete v rybářské vesničce Sivota. Cestovky vás budou chtít ubytovat v Nidri, kde se to ale hemží turisty. Tip: Vodopády Dimosari nedaleko Nidri, řecky zvané Kataraktes. Autem se k nim z Nidri dostanete za 15 minut, pěšky asi za hodinu. Túra terénem s vodními kaskádami je skvělým osvěžením v horkých dnech.

You don't have to travel to the Caribbean to experience white sandy beaches in Europe. Lefkó means white and the name comes from the impressive chalk cliffs. The island is situated in the Ionian Sea between Corfu and Kefalonia. I have first been to Lefkada as a student many years ago and lately again – it was nice to see that the landscape didn't change that much, except for some earthquake damage in 2015 on the west coast, when one of the most stunning beaches Egremni was destroyed. Thankfully, there are still similar gems like Kathisma, Megali Petra or Porto Katsiki in the south part.

There are places you need to see and then those, you can omit. For breathtaking sunsets go to Agios Nikitas, surfers will benefit by staying in Vassiliki, and great taverns are to be found in Sivota. Stay away from Nidri, which is packed with tourists and accommodation opportunities. Tip: Enjoy the refreshing hike to the Dimosari Waterfalls, also called Kataraktes in Greek. You can get there either by car from Nidri (15 min) or walk, that should take you about an hour. The bonus on a hot day is the cooling down by the fresh water cascading down the mountainous terrain.
